Web Series Review: Gyaarah Gyaarah rests on a unique concept but the finale is not up to the mark : Bollywood News - Bollywood Hungama (2024)

Synopsis:
GYAARAH GYAARAH is the story of two cops from different periods forming a bond. On October 25, 2001, a 9-year-old girl Aditi and a 9-year-old Yug Arya (Yug Pandya)are playing in a fair in Dehradun. Suddenly, a mysterious woman tempts Aditi with candy floss and kidnaps her. Aditi's mother Sanjana Tiwari (Gautami Kapoor) immediately complains to the cops, and they begin a manhunt. The kidnapper is assumed to be a male. Yug tries to tell people that the kidnapper is a girl, but his plea falls on deaf ears. On November 3, Aditi's body is found in the Ganga river. The killer is never traced and punished. In 2016, the government passes a law under which unsolved cases, which are more than 15 years old, will be closed forever. It leads to outrage across the country. Aditi's case is about to be shut in a few days and Sanjana sits on a dharna outside Dehradun police headquarters. This is when Yug Arya (Raghav Juyal) joins work. He reports to DSP Vamika Rawat (Kritika Kamra) and tries to solve Aditi's case. While going through old documents in the records room, he comes across a vintage walkie-talkie. At 11:11 pm, it mysteriously switches on. A cop named Shaurya Anthwal (Dhairya Karwa) is on the other side and he tells Yug that the killer might have left some clues in Panchachuli Textile Mills. Yug reaches there and finds the decomposed body of Raghav Nautiyal, who was and is still presumed to be the killer of Aditi. Yug is surprised about how Shaurya knew such crucial information. Yug soon realizes that Shaurya is communicating with him from the year 2001! What happens next forms the rest of the series.

Gyaarah Gyaarah Story Review:
GYAARAH GYAARAH is based on the Korean TV show SIGNAL (created by Choi Jin-hee and Park Ji-young). The story is one of its kind. Sujoy Shekhar and Puja Banerji's screenplay is effective and despite comprising 8 episodes, it doesn't get slow or dragging as a lot is happening every now and then. However, crucial questions are left unanswered, and it affects the impact. Gautam Govind Sharma and Sameer Saral Sharma's dialogues are real and conversational.

Umesh Bist's direction is neat. This is a complicated series where the story moves back and forth. But the director makes sure that it never gets confusing. He also fills the show with text depicting the year and location so that the audience clearly understands what's happening. He also gives a fast-paced treatment in several scenes which adds to the tension. The scenes of Yug and Shaurya communicating, leading to unexpected consequences, make for a great watch.

Sadly, GYAARAH GYAARAH is not without its share of minuses. The show is divided into three chapters and the first two of them are very gripping. The final chapter, however, doesn't give the same high and this is astonishing since usually, the finale should be the best part of the enterprise. The character of Sameer Bhatia (Harsh Chhaya) is bewildering. He is shown to have a temper but never admonishes Vamika when she counters him at the press conference, that too twice. And the biggest issue with the show is that all viewers will get a certain question in their minds and would hope that it'll be answered somewhere in the show. Sadly, that never happens.

Gyaarah Gyaarah Performances:
Raghav Juyal rocks the show yet again after a bravura performance in KILL. He suits the part and is impressive right from his amusing entry scene. Kritika Kamra is dependable and tries her best to put her best foot forward. However, there's hardly any difference in her look in the late 1990s and in 2016. Dhairya Karwa puts up a commendable performance. It's, however, strange, that his character never gets punished for breaking the law and even the jaws of police officers.Harsh Chhaya is good but is let down by the writing.Late Nitesh Pandey (Sub Inspector Balwant Singh) andPreshah Bharti (Deepa; forensic expert) are lovely.Tapasvi Joshi (Raghav Nautiyal) and Purnendu Bhattacharya (Harbhajan Anthwal; Shaurya's father) get no scope.Samvedna Suwalka (Ritu Bhatt; nurse) plays a challenging role with ease.Mukti Mohan (Palak Rana) is superb, and one wishes she had more screen time. Brijendra Kala (Brahmdutt Chandola) delivers one of the finest performances of his career. Sachin Kumar (Birju) is impressive. The other actors who do well areGaurav Sharma (Rajendra Juyal; Bhatia's faithful junior), Gandhali Jain (Dilshan Khan), Yug Pandya, Paritosh Sand (D K Sultania) and Shyamali (Neha Singh).

Gyaarah Gyaarah music and other technical aspects:
The songs are forgettable. Tallz's background score is in sync with the film's mood and theme.Kuldeep Mamania's cinematography is appropriate. Sandeep Meher's production design is appealing while Rohit Chaturvedi's costumes are straight out of life.Mohd Amin Khatib's action isnot gory. Prerna Saigal's editing is top-notch.

Gyaarah Gyaarah Conclusion:
On the whole, GYAARAH GYAARAH rests on a unique concept and some fine performances by the cast, especially Raghav Juyal. However, the finale is not up to the mark and the show also doesn't answer certain important questions, which might not be acceptable to the viewers.
