Overall Thoughts

The Exorcist: Believer is the latest installment in the Exorcist franchise, and it’s a worthy successor to the original classic. Directed by David Gordon Green (Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends), Believer is a dark, disturbing, and suspenseful film that will stay with you long after the credits have rolled.

The film stars Leslie Odom Jr. as Victor Fielding, a single father whose daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett), is possessed by a demon. When all other options have failed, Victor turns to Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn), the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before.

The Exorcist: Believer is a well-made film with excellent performances from the cast. Odom Jr. particularly stands out as the distraught father who will do whatever it takes to save his daughter. Ellen Burstyn, who was in the original film, reprises her role in the film and is excellent as the haunted woman who has been living with the trauma of her own daughter’s possession for decades. While Burstyn gives a solid performance in her return, the lack of screentime she receives in the current installment is a bit disappointing.

The film’s special effects are top-notch, and the exorcism scenes are truly terrifying. Many viewers will appreciate the solid and intriguing storyline that leads up to the possessions, as well as the themes throughout the film that revolve around community and forgiveness. Green does a masterful job of creating a sense of dread and suspense, and the film’s atmosphere is incredibly unsettling.

The Exorcist: Believer is not for the faint of heart. It is a very dark and disturbing film, and it contains some truly gruesome imagery and plenty of jump-scares. If you are easily offended or sensitive to horror, then this film is not for you.

Overall, The Exorcist: Believer is a well-made and suspenseful horror film with excellent performances from the cast. It is a worthy successor to the original classic, and it is sure to please fans of the Exorcist franchise.

The Exorcist: Believer release date: October 6, 2023.

The Exorcist: Believer runtime: 1 hour and 51 minutes in length.
